How did we get to this sign-up sight unseen situation?
From 2004 up to the 2010 Scotland trip, hiking tours were promoted in the usual manner. Coach Gunn would research the best hikes and places of interest, make a number of scouting trips, and finalize the bidding process to make a trip description and set a price.
At 4 or 5 information meetings he presented a slideshow, gave a live trip description and answered questions. After the meeting those interested would sign up on a paper form and make a deposit or go home to think about it.
In 2009 the first information meeting for Scotland the trip overfilled and many were on a waiting list. After that no Cairn Stone alumni or anyone who knew a Cairn Stone alumnus, would wait for an information meeting.
As soon as Coach Gunn mentions a new destination in a lecture, we get deposits, even 2 years in advance.
