Our first trip Orcas are on their great Washington State adventure!
"I am excited about returning to the great state of Washington as our major tour destination! I am busy finalizing the tour itinerary and gathering bids. Complete trip information should be available very soon. It will be a 12 day hiking tour September 5-16 and if there's enough interest a second tour will go September 19-30.
Major destinations being explored are Olympic National Park and Hurricane Ridge, North Cascades National Park, Mt. Rainier National Park, Baker-Snoqualmie National Park, Alpine Lakes Wilderness, Crescent Lake, Olympia, Hama Hama Oyster Saloon, San Juan Islands including Anacortes and Mt. Constitution on Orcas Island, Lake Quinault rain forest, Pacific Crest Trail, and Ron's great promenade and terrific REI store.
One of these hikes will require a TEST HIKE to qualify. I am very interested in finding a stunning, challenging hike in the Olympic Mountains or on the Pacific Crest Trail. I am checking on tour bus access and trail permits. Tentative plans for the TEST HIKE include a hike at our Manistee 21 mile course. The date will be set soon along with our 2026 Training Hike schedule."

We were Team Orcas in 2010 and now again in 2026. This Mascot represents your curiosity, strength and sense of adventure with exploring the Best of Washington State!

Home of Jake and Kellee Gunn and daughters. It is Washington State's capital and a great place to explore. It is also well located for some of our best hikes.
We will lodge again at the well located Doubletree hotel.

With nearly a million acres of protected wilderness, diversity is the hallmark of Olympic National Park. The park includes mountains, old growth rainforests and many miles of coastline. We will definitely return to hike Hurricane Ridge with its spectacular mountain views.

Many great hiking options. Fancy a peaceful stroll down to the river, looking for birds and wildlife, or a glimpse of migrating salmon? Or are you in the mood to push your limits, climb to the heights and watch the world unfold below you?

Majestic Mt. Rainier rises over 14,000' and is an active volcano with glaciers. The meadows below the snowpack are filled with subalpine wildflowers. We'll find our trails in the ancient forests on the lower slopes.

This park extends 140 miles along the western slopes of the Cascade mountains. Hiking on Mt. Baker in September we'll still find snow on the highest parts of the trail.

Anacortes on Fidalgo Island is a quaint town in the southern part of the San Juan Islands. Coach's brother Jack and wife settled here after retiring as it is one of the best places to sail. Those that traveled with Coach here in 2010 will be eager to return! It was a perfect home base for getting to other adventures such as on the ferry to Orcas Island or to whale watch. There are great hikes on the island as well as many restaurants to enjoy.

Located in the central Cascade Mountains this wilderness area features 47 trailheads and 615 miles of trails. 67 miles of the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail) goes through here. Glacier carved with over 700 lakes and peaks with permanent snow cover the views are spectacular! Narrowing it down to the best hike for our team Orcas trekkers is Coach's challenge.

The ferry to Orcas Island takes our bus along for our transportation on the island. This is part of the largest ferry system in the USA. We may depart early morning and have breakfast on the ferry. Hopefully, the bus can take us to the trailhead for a super hike.

A favorite lunch stop for Coach Gunn. Located in the countryside on the bay where the oysters are farmed it is a uniquely Washington State experience. Your view at lunch includes mountains of oyster shells and the bay where they grow. It's a very cool and fun stop on the way back from a great hike.

Washington State has 550 miles of the 2,650 miles of the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail). Coach Gunn is looking for the best portion of this trail for your hike. Stay tuned!

Our flights will be in and out of Seattle, Washington. Coach plans to give us time to explore Seattle. He has an urban hike mapped out that includes many must see features and takes you to one of the largest REI stores. You'll want to visit the iconic Pikes Place Market and perhaps visit the original Starbucks store just down the block.
