10K/5K/2K RUN & WALKS
Fedi Fe (Fire Up)!
Coach Ron Gunn has helped Southwestern Michigan College and St. Paul's Episcopal church with an avenue to respond to the urgent need in Haiti. He has designed a unique event utilizing part of the Trail course used for Steve's Run (Roadrunner Trails Red course).
The intrinsic rewards await both the serious and casual runner, as well as, hikers and walkers who wish to challenge this wooded trail course in mid winter's brisk weather - all in support of an urgent need. Leverage your efforts by obtaining pledges of $1 to $5 per kilometer from family and friends.
This SMC community sponsored event is presented as a fund raiser for the Haitian people. All funds raised will go to help fill the even greater need since the earthquake in Haiti. Coach Gunn and the other organizers are familiar with Haiti as part of the volunteer medical teams which pay their own way each year. They plan to go again in March. Sponsored by St. Paul's Episcopal church which has been involved since 1967.

St. Vincent's School and Hospital
St. Paul's Haiti mission and outreach
OTHER COMMENTS: The Leogane Nursing School was built to U.S. standards and has survived this earthquake. Unfortunately, the town was 80% destroyed with reports of at least 10,000 dead and countless injured. However, the relief efforts and news coverage passed them by concentrating on Port Au Prince just 12 miles away until very recently. You may have seen the SOS made of stones in the grass on the news. That was them trying to get some help and attention. You will find links to CNN and other reports with details at the Leogane Nursing School web site link above. This Nursing School and Hospital is where the Dowagiac team from St. Paul's do much of their work.
